Pum munud arall is my current favourite book. It is a Welsh translation of Five Minutes to Bed by Richard Dungworth. It’s a very simplistic book as most tiny kids books are – all about a group of pirates who don’t want to go to bed when the captain says so. They only want 5 more minutes as they’re not at all tired and after all they’re the best pirates going. So the captain gives them 5 more minutes in which he gives them a list of jobs to do. Then 4 more, then 3 more and so on until they’re all flat out asleep as they’re so tired. I apologise for spoiling the ending for those who don’t know the story. It runs beautifully, like a poem, with a chorus and everything. Ive taken to reading it to Mems at bedtime as I read somewhere it was best to stick to the same story book before bed every night. Is it true? No idea, but I’m ready to give anything a go. Plus I like it, the sound of the story pleases me.

Also it gives me evil ideas for when Mems is older and wants “just five more minutes” before bed – I shall have a list of little jobs she can do if she wants to stay up those extra five minutes. I wonder if I’ll remember this idea then? I hope so. I wonder if bed will be a better option? I kind of can’t wait…
